Avocados are the ultimate superfood; packed with vitamins, minerals and plenty of protein. They are also incredibly versatile and can be used in both savory and sweet applications. But how do you get inside the avocado and away from the tough flesh and dense pit? Well it’s actually easier than you think and incredibly quick to do. So here’s how to open an avocado!
1) Start by washing the avocado and drying it completely with a clean towel. Once it is clean, use a knife to make an incision around the entire length of the avocado, rotating the avocado as you go. The large pit in the center will stop you from cutting all the way through.
2) Next, grab each side of the avocado and twist each half in the opposite direction until they come apart. One half will have the pit and the other half will have just the indentation.
3) To remove the pit, hold the avocado half in one hand and carefully hit the pit with the sharp edge of a knife. Now with the knife inserted into the pit, gently twist until the pit pops out of the avocado. Discard the pit, scoop out the avocado meat and enjoy!
