Ingredient: Matcha
Origin: China

Matcha, or green tea powder, is made from green tea leaves that are ground into a fine powder. Matcha is very complex in flavor with spicy notes and earthy undertones. It is also rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are great for you from the inside-out. Plus, because you are consuming the whole green tea leaf, you’re actually gaining these vitamins and minerals more quickly (this includes matcha’s natural caffeine).

To make hot matcha tea, mix 1 teaspoon of matcha with 1/3 cup warm water. Whisk the two together with a bamboo whisk until thoroughly combined and frothy. Be careful not to overheat the water because it will make the drink extra bitter.

If you want to try matcha in something other than tea, try adding it to muffins with a lemon glaze. Matcha is also great in more savory preparations like a stir fry with beef and vegetables. Or try making matcha cookies, like these Matcha White Chocolate Chip Cookies on Coffee, Cabs and Bar Tabs.
