It’s that time of year again, when the weather gets colder and the holidays draw near. And when I’m feeling the chill and want to warm up, the first thing I think to make is hot cocoa!
Last winter I fell in love with peppermint mochas from Starbucks. Hot, creamy coffee with a touch of chocolate and peppermint…yum! I wanted to create something that was delicious with or without coffee. Also, I wanted to make a drink that could be made at home, as well as save you time and money. Enjoy this simple and easy peppermint hot cocoa recipe this holiday season.
Peppermint Hot Cocoa
Yield: 2 servings
2 cups whole milk
2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
Shot of expresso (Optional)
Whipped Cream (Optional)
Crushed Candy Canes (Optional)
1) In a small saucepan on low heat, add milk and bittersweet chocolate. Stir until chocolate has melted completely.
2) Add sugar and peppermint extract, and stir until sugar has dissolved. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy.
*Cook’s Note: If you want to add a little energy to your hot cocoa, add a shot of expresso. Top with whipped cream and/or crushed candy canes for extra holiday fun!
