I also wanted this salad to have some unique and interesting ingredients, instead of your classic toppings and greens. So here it is, a Carrot and Cabbage Salad with Miso Vinaigrette!

This colorful salad has the perfect balance of texture and flavor, thanks to the complex combination of shredded carrots and earthy white miso. The fresh cilantro and nutty sesame seeds transform a traditional slaw into a wonderfully delicious salad.

New Recipe Alert: Fried Calamari Sub with Remoulade Sauce

fullsizerender-212

Fried calamari with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice is one of my favorite starters, and if it’s on the menu, I’ll probably order it. There’s just something about the combination of salty, crispy fish and a savory, acidic sauce; it’s perfection. I also love fried fish sandwiches, like an oyster or shrimp po’ boy, with soft bread and a creamy, mayo-based spread. So I got to thinking; why not make a sandwich with fried calamari? With just a little brainstorming and recipe testing, I give to you a Fried Calamari Sub with Remoulade Sauce!

The calamari rings are dipped in buttermilk, breaded in flour and cayenne and deep fried to golden-brown perfection. Then they are layered on a soft hoagie roll with baby kale, fresh red onion and a slather of remoulade sauce. This sub is packed with layers of flavor and textures, making it very hard to put down.

To make this Fried Calamari Sub, check out the recipe here on Coffee, Cabs and Bar Tabs. You can also see the remoulade sauce here, if you’re looking for an easy and tasty sauce for dipping. Thank you for stopping by CC&BT, and happy cooking!

A Savory Starter for Your Thanksgiving Feast

img_9257

Planning an entire Thanksgiving meal can take a lot of time and effort, and usually appetizers are pushed to the back burner. But why not this year start your guests off with a seasonal appetizer that compliments the crisp weather and festive holiday. Plus, it’s easy to make and guaranteed to impress a crowd. Try this spectacular recipe for Balsamic Brussels Sprouts and Ricotta Flatbread.

The combination of roasted brussels sprouts, ricotta cheese and balsamic vinegar are a classic favorite that pairs perfectly. And the addition of crunchy sunflower seeds and spicy pink peppercorns add depth of flavor and texture. Plus, the soft naan flatbread is the ideal vessel for this fall finger food.

If you want to plan ahead, you can easily make some of the components of this flatbread ahead of time so your Thanksgiving is as effortless as possible. For example, you can start by roasting the brussels sprouts the day before, then warm them in the oven before assembling. You can also season the ricotta, then spread it directly onto the naan right as your guests begin to arrive. These simple tasks you can do ahead will allow you to spend more time with your guests and less time slaving away in the kitchen.

Crispy Fried Shrimp with Sriracha Lime Mayo…Qui, Chef!

img_9192

There’s just something about fried fish that makes it hard to resist. I think it’s the savoriness and crispy-crunch of a fried snack that makes you want to keep coming back for more. And when it comes to shrimp, these succulent crustaceans are the perfect protein to fry.

The first step to making fried shrimp is picking the quintessential coating, and Japanese panko breadcrumbs are the ideal crumb for the job. And while fried shrimp are delicious on their own, you can totally take them to the next level with a simple yet delicious dipping sauce. So that’s why I decided to make these Crispy Fried Shrimp with Sriracha Lime Mayo!

These crispy fried shrimp have a perfectly golden-brown crust and tender interior. Plus, they take little to no time to make. I recommend serving them with a Sriracha Lime Mayo, a creamy dipping sauce with the perfect balance of acid and heat.

Make sure to check out the recipe for Crispy Fried Shrimp here, and you can find the recipe for Sriracha Lime Mayo here. Thanks for stopping by Coffee, Cabs and Bar Tabs, happy cooking!
